Far too frequently we hear that the church is not a safe place to talk about abuse. Memories are questioned, damage minimized, invasive details requested, scriptures telling the abused to forgive and forget quoted, and victims are caused to feel responsible for the damage done to them. This response actually represents a re-victimization of the wounded and drives the stake of shame even deeper into the damaged soul. Even when it is not out of deliberate desire to wound, ignorance or ill-preparedness can make the church unsafe.
This is a plea that the church rise up and join us in ministry to a vast number of people with wounds - a large segment of the body of Christ unable to fully embrace the Great Commandment or fully join in the Great Commission because their souls have not found relief from pain and their ability to trust the Wounded Healer is damaged. We believe the next great movement within the church will be toward becoming a community that consistently offers genuine care and compassion, grace and truth to the wounded. By God's grace, OHM is poised to play a significant role in that movement. You can too.
Set the pace by joining us at SALTS. We offer a special discount to pastors, part of our desire to see the church be a safe place for the wounded.
Listen to the words of a pastor:
"It was difficult to take off my pastor's hat and receive this for myself. I am so used to ministering to others and yet so need people to speak into my life. I hardly knew what to do when people in my group risked moving toward my heart."
OHM embraces the Statement of Faith of the National Association of Evangelicals.
